Japanese Phrase of the Day! - Exhaustion Print E-mail
Japanese Phrases

Since I'm tired as all hell from a night of hectic work, let's all learn how to express how I feel in Japanese!

Romaji: (Watashi wa) Tsukareta. (wah-tah-SHE•wah  tsu-kah-REH-tah)

Kanji/Hiragana: (私は)疲れた。(わたしは)つかれた。

Meaning: I'm tired.

In Japanese, you normally don't refer to yourself in a sentence unless you want to emphasize something about you or something that you particularly did. That's why "watashi wa" is in parentheses. If you wanted to say something more along the lines of "I'm the one who's tired!", then you'd use "watashi GA" at the beginning of this sentence. I also typed this sentence using both kanji+hiragana & only hiragana for those who may be a little more advanced in Japanese as well as beginners who may know how to read hiragana & katakana but may not have learned more complicated kanji. Happy learning everyone! There will be another phrase to learn tomorrow! ^_^
